Goa saw a 34 per cent voter turnout in the first four hours of polling on Saturday. Voting in Punjab began at 8 am and 15 per cent have voted so far. Polling at some booths in the Majitha constituency was paused due to faulty EVM machines, sources told NDTV. Today's elections test the expansion plans of Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party, which debuts in both states. The assembly elections being held in five states all through this month and into March are also the first big electoral test for the ruling BJP since November's notes ban. The BJP is in power in both Goa and in Punjab with ally Akali Dal. Polling will be held next week in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarkhand and Manipur. Votes for all five states will be counted on March 11.
