Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Manish Malhotra’s muse-designer relationship has seen years now. Whether in films, runway shows or red-carpet appearances—their partnership is one that has been applauded time and again. This year, the duo has come together yet again for the much-awaited Fanney Khan, which sees Rai Bachchan play the part of a pop sensation—Baby Khan. The film is remake of the 2000 Belgian comedy Everybody’s Famous!, and will feature Anil Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao along with the former Miss World.
For her character, a globally-adored diva, Rai Bachchan sports fiery red highlights, spangled on-stage costumes and off-duty camo jackets; a look as imaginative as one would expect that of a performer to be. Manish Malhotra, who in his 28th year as a costume designer, has been the brain behind the creation of Rai Bachchan’s persona. We spoke to the designer about what into the making of Baby Khan’s closet.
