Karnataka: At Least 25 Dead After Bus Plunges Into Canal In Mandya District indianexpress.com
At least 25 people were killed Saturday after a bus they were travelling in fell into a canal in Karnataka’s Mandya district, said state Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara. “25 people have died. I believe the driver was not driving properly, I will find out, take some more inputs,” Parameshwara was quoted as saying by ANI
The incident took place around noon near Kanakanamaradi of Pandavapura taluk. According to PTI, locals said most of the victims are school children who were returning home after half-a-day of school
Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy expressed shock over the incident and has rushed to the site. According to a statement released by the Chief Minister’s Office, Kumaraswamy has spoken to district in-charge minister C S Puttaraju and district Deputy Commissioner and directed them to visit the spot immediately and oversee rescue operation.
Former chief minister and Congress leader Siddaramaiah offered his condolences to the bereaved families of those died in the incident. He said he has spoken to concerned officials to ensure immediate relief for all those affected.
