Anupam Kher Resigns As Ftii Chairman indianexpress.com
Veteran actor Anupam Kher has resigned from his position as chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) because of his acting commitments. In a letter to Information and Broadcasting Minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Kher, who was appointed to this position a year back, said he needed to spend prolonged periods of time in the United States for the next three years for an international television show because of which he would not be able to give enough time to FTII.
“At the time when I was officially approached by the former I&B Minister, Smt Smriti Irani to be appointed as the chairman, I did share with her that I was due to be stationed in the US for nearly six months for an international TV show. The latest news now is that the show has been given a further extension of four months. This translates into me being stationed in the US for nearly nine months between 2018 and 2019, and then for a similar period for a minimum of three years more,” Kher wrote in his resignation letter that is dated October 30.
“Given this assignment, it would not be fair to me, the students and the management team, for me to hold a position of such responsibility and accountability, without being actively involved in the operations. Hence, I request you to please accept my resignation and in the notice period scout for someone suitable to take a handover from me,” he said.

It has been an honour, a privilege & a great learning experience to be the Chairman of the prestigious @FTIIOfficial. But because of my international assignments I won’t have much time to devote at the institute. Hence decided to send my resignation. Thank you. 🙏 @Ra_THORe

Incidentally, his resignation came on the day Anupam Kher chaired the first meeting of FTII Society after taking charge. The meeting was held in Mumbai on Tuesday, apparently after a specific request from the Ministry asking Kher to call this meeting, so that the Academic Council, Governing Council and the Standing Finance Committee, which had all been delayed, could be constituted.
The meeting, which was held at Films Division in Mumbai, was attended by actor Divya Dutta, television producer B P Singh and academician Archana Rakesh Singh among other nominated members. A majority of the members of the FTII Society such as singer Yesudas, actors Kangana Ranaut, Arvind Swami and Satish Kaushik, cinematographer Mahesh Aney, film directors Rajkumar Hirani and Vidhu Vinod Chopra did not attend the meeting. Bhajan singer Anup Jalota, who was in the reality television show Bigg Boss 12 until last week, also was not present.
At Tuesday’s meeting chaired by Anupam Kher, Satish Kaushik was selected as the Vice President of FTII Society. This is for the first time that a Vice President was appointed for the Society. Producer B P Singh was appointed as vice chairman of the Governing Council and chairman of Academic Council.
