After A Month, Fir Against Alok Nath For Rape dnaindia.com
A month after receiving a complaint from writer-producer Vinta Nanda, the Oshiwara police on Wednesday registered a case of rape against actor Alok Nath. She had recorded her statement with the police last month, but the police registered a case under section 379 of the Indian Penal Code against Nath for alleged rape.
According to the police, the survivor's revelations against Nath came amidst the high-profile #MeToo movement, when it took Twitter by storm. In her social media post, she had claimed that 19 years ago, Nath had spiked her drink during a party at his house and when she felt uneasy and was leaving, Nath offered to drop her home, but instead took her to another location and raped her. Nath denied the accusations vehemently and later, his wife filed a civil defamation suit seeking Rs 1 as compensation.
"A case has been registered under section 376 and the matter is still being investigated. The police has not yet shown any arrests in the case, but all the technicalities need to be properly probed before taking any further action. All necessary details shall be highlighted ahead," said a senior police officer.
After the complaint being registered by the police, Nanda issuing a statement and said, "The moment I penned the truth on social media on 8th October, 2018, it felt like I had released myself from the prison of fear. Today, I am glad the FIR had been finally lodged. I trust the Mumbai Police. I know that when things have finally come this far, justice will prevail. I have full faith and confidence in the country's judiciary."
