A high alert has been issued in three states – Gujarat, Rajasthan and West Bengal – after the Met office has forecast heavy rain in the next four days. Nearly 25,000 people have been evacuated to safety across Gujarat after several districts in the north and central parts of the state were inundated. In Rajasthan, where two people have died in floods, schools have been shut in Jodhpur, Sirohi and Jalore, the worst affected areas. While teams of National Disaster Response Force, and other rescue agencies are at work, the Air Force has been kept on stand-by to evacuate people in affected states. In West Bengal, lowlands in Birbhum, Purulia, West Medinipore and Hooghly districts were inundated.
