Fuel in West Bengal to be one rupee cheaper: Mamata Banerjee indianexpress.com
A day after nationwide shutdown over the unchecked rise in fuel prices, the West Bengal government on Tuesday slashed the fuel rates by Re 1 a litre. The new prices of petrol and diesel will be implemented from Wednesday. The decision was announced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
West Bengal joins Andhra Pradesh and Rajasthan in reducing the fuel prices to provide relief to people from the continuous surge in prices. Petrol is retailing at Rs 83.75 a litre in Kolkata, while diesel is at Rs 75.82 per litre.
Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh government on Monday announced cutting down prices of petrol and diesel by Rs 2 a litre. “Common man is suffering a lot due to the increasing prices of fuel. To ease the burden a bit we are reducing the price on petrol and diesel by Rs 2 per litre. The state will lose revenue of Rs 1,120 crores due to this reduction in price and in spite of the financial difficulties the state is in, we are willing to bear it,” CM Chandrababu Naidu said.
